Illness Outbreak At Kalithea Horizon Royal Hotel, Rhodes
Published date:
12 Aug 2010
Irwin Mitchell are concerned to hear of further outbreaks of illness in Rhodes, Greece, after the recent outbreak of illness reported at the Rhodes Holiday Village Hotel. We have recently received reports of holidaymakers returning from the Kalithea Horizon Royal Hotel, which is also located in Rhodes, suffering from symptoms of gastric illness.
Holidaymakers are returning from the four star hotel with symptoms of profuse diarrhoea, violent stomach cramps, fever and nausea. Reports have suggested that as many as 400 holidaymakers may have contracted illness at the all-inclusive resort.
Reports have also suggested that children are having to be hospitalised as a result of their symptoms, and that antibiotics have been made freely available for collection at the hotel's reception due to the sheer numbers effected and so that guests can self-medicate.
Reports would indicate that the holidaymakers have become ill with suspected food poisoning, possibly due to the poor food hygiene standards practised at the hotel and and issues with the quality of food consumed at the hotel. Reports have detailed a number of issues in relation to the food, reporting that the Athens restaurant at the hotel has a serious problem with a vast number of flies landing on the food. This poses a serious risk to holidaymakers as flies often carry bacteria from one place to another. Additionally, Irwin Mitchell has heard that pest control vans have been seen within the grounds of the hotel.
We are already acting for a number of British holidaymakers who stayed at the hotel last year and whose holidays were ruined by illness.
If you also travelled to this hotel and suffered from gastric illness, Irwin Mitchell would like to hear from you as you may be able to claim compensation for your ruined holiday, and also, the pain and suffering caused by the illness that you sustained.
