Holiday company admitted liability following African mini bus crash in which British Holidaymakers were seriously injured

Published date: 01 Dec 2008

We represent 4 British tourists who were injured in a serious accident during their holidays to Namibia when a minibus they were travelling in crashed.

The minibus trip was part of a two week Namibia Lodge Adventure which was organised by British Tour Operator,  Exodus Travel Limited. The minibus was travelling from Windhoek to Sesriem and the Soussusvlei Sand Dunes when the driver allegedly lost control and the mini bus rolled onto its side, injuring many of the 10 passengers on board.

One such passenger, Claudia Strachelhaus, claims she is lucky to be alive after surviving the accident in Namibia late last year.

Ms Strachelhaus was knocked unconscious; sustaining a broken neck and vertebrae, nerve damage to her arm and cuts and bruises to her face, arms and legs. She was taken to hospital in the Southern African country and, although she was able to return to the UK. Her injuries required hospital treatment in the UK and resulted in her being unable to search for a new job after she was made redundant from her position as a banker.

She said “I did not know what was happening as the mini bus hit the bend and tipped over. I was knocked unconscious during the accident but I remember the horrific scene when I came around at the hospital as there were people from the mini bus covered in blood and people screaming in pain it was awful”

A number of other passengers of the minibus were also seriously injured, with some passengers reportedly suffering head and spinal injuries. At least one of the passengers is likely to need further surgery as a result of the injuries they sustained.

The 4 passengers we represent are still affected by the injuries they suffered during the crash and are trying to come to terms with what has happened to them.

We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome.
