Irwin Mitchell have been instructed to act on behalf of a number of clients who have suffered from varying and severe injuries following a plane crash in Koh Samui in August 2009. The aircraft, operated by Bangkok Airways, was travelling from Krabi to Koh Samui in Thailand.
Claims are being brought against the tour operator under the Package Travel Regulations 1992, for those clients whose flights were included as part of their package holiday.
In other cases where the Package Travel Regulations do not apply, a claim is being brought directly against Bangkok Airways.
The flight was said to be turbulent throughout, which worsened upon landing. The aircraft descended sharply and at high speed, causing it to bounce along the runway. The pilot lost control of the aircraft as it swerved from the runway and collided with a disused air control tower.
Injuries sustained by our clients include complicated fractures, lacerations to the head and body, trapped nerves, whiplash and a number of other injuries, including psychological injuries. Some clients were detained in hospital for lengthy period in Thailand and all clients have received medical treatment upon return to the UK. Some are awaiting further operations.
