Irwin Mitchell currently acts for 83 British holidaymakers who are bringing claims against tour operator First Choice, following holidays at the Holiday Village Red Sea in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The group consists of families, couples and young children who went on holiday between May 2008 and September 2008. However, after arriving at the hotel most of the group fell ill suffering from symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. 5 of the group were later confirmed to have been infected with bacterial illnesses including Salmonella, Shigella and E-coli.
Guests have made numerous quality complaints including the staff being unhygienic, the bar being dirty, the lack of water available, and not enough parasols to keep children in the shade. Guests also complained that the food served at the hotel looked undercooked, was not served at the correct temperature and sometimes appeared to have been recycled. Guests recall eating eggs and poultry which did not seem to be properly cooked. They also noted that the staff in the restaurant area did not appear very clean, and one guest saw a chef wash salad in the toilet wash basin.
The hotel was at the centre of a similar outbreak of illness in 2007. First Choice has admitted liability for illness suffered by 8 guests represented by Irwin Mitchell, who all fell ill with similar symptoms to those described above. The saga continues as more people have come forward complaining of illness following holidays at the hotel this summer.
Irwin Mitchell encourages anyone that has suffered gastric illness at this hotel to contact them with further details.
