The International Travel Litigation team at Irwin Mitchell are concerned for holidaymakers after reading reports that the number of cases of legionnaires’ disease reported in Ontario is higher than usual this year, which has prompted public health units across the province to increase surveillance for the disease.
So far 116 cases of legionnaires disease have already been reported in 2011 and public health experts have suggested that it may be due to the hot summer contributing to the growth of Legionella pneumophila, the bacterium which causes the disease.
