The International Travel Litigation team Irwin Mitchell, which specialises in cases of food poisoning in the UK and abroad, has been contacted by a holidaymaker after their return from the five star Riu Karamboa in Cape Verde.
After booking their holiday with a UK Tour Operator one holiday maker was so ill on holiday that they had to seek treatment from the doctor in the resort after developing symptoms which included vomiting and stomach cramps.
Holidaymakers who have been to the hotel have complained about the quality of the food being served at the hotel with some guests reporting food which was undercooked and served lukewarm. Guests at the Hotel Karamboa have complained about dogs and birds in the hotel restaurant area.
Irwin Mitchell have also acted for holidaymakers who have fallen ill with gastric illness after holidaying at the Riu Karamboa in 2009 and 2010 and it is possible that the illnesses experienced by holidaymakers were due to a breakdown in food handling and food hygiene procedures, as well as a failure to prevent and maintain the spread of illness amongst holidaymakers.
