The International Travel Litigation team at Irwin Mitchell are concerned for holidaymakers on board the Aurora Cruise liner, operated by P&O Cruises. It has been reported by the Centre for Disease Control that holidaymakers have fallen ill on board the vessel during its voyage in January 2012. This is not the first time that the Aurora has been plagued by illness.
Heightening our concern is the fact that we were previously instructed to act for 15 clients who pursued claims following their illnesses contracted during a World Cruise on board the same ship between 11th January 2009 and 13th April 2009.
The group of 15, the majority of whom are pensioners, took this once in a life time trip to celebrate their wedding anniversaries and retirements. Many of the clients had saved up long and hard to afford the cruise and were bitterly disappointed when the ship broke down and was stranded in Auckland for repairs. However to add insult to injury many also suffered from gastric related symptoms. Some of the group are continuing to suffer illness as a result of their stay on board the cruise ship.
Mr Peter Pritchard of Staffordshire, who was on board the vessel in 2009, was confirmed as having contracted E-Coli 0157 during the cruise.
Mrs Maryanne Ainger (62) from Bristol, also holidaying in 2009, suffered from severe gastroenteritis and was hospitalised in San Francisco. She returned early from the cruise and continues to receive medical attention 6 months after returning to the UK.
Additionally, in 2008, an investigation into hepatitis was launched after many passengers fell ill. In 2007 and 2003 a large Norovirus outbreak occurred on board the cruise ship.
If you also stayed aboard this cruise liner and suffered gastric illness, Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Travel Litigation team would like to hear from you as you may be able to claim compensation for your ruined holiday, and also, the pain and suffering caused by the illness that you have suffered.
