Irwin Mitchell has been contacted on behalf of a British couple who are on board the Boudicca cruise ship as it cruises through the Mediterranean. The retired couple are amongst a large number of passengers who have reportedly suffered from symptoms of diarrhoea and sickness whilst on board the cruise which left Southampton on the 20th of March 2012.
On reporting the symptoms to the medical team on board the couple were advised that approximately 120 others were ill and the illness was confirmed as Rotavirus. Rotavirus is a virus that infects the stomach and bowel. Rotavirus can cause severe diarrhoea and vomiting, and stomach cramps. Good hygiene is the most important way of preventing the spread of rotavirus.
The gastric symptoms which passengers have reportedly suffered may be a result of poor food hygiene and general health and safety procedures practised on board the cruise which has resulted in passengers falling ill.
Irwin Mitchell is currently representing over 130 passengers who were affected by illness during or following stays on board the vessel in 2009 and 2010 and a further group of clients who became ill following cruises taken in March and April 2011 where one such holidaymaker was confirmed as suffering from Campylobacter which can be caused by the consumption of contaminated food or drink.
Irwin Mitchell has also acted for numerous passengers who have fallen ill with gastric illness on Fred Olsen vessels in the past. .
If you have suffered from gastric illness following your stay on the board the Boudicca, Irwin Mitchell would like to hear from you as you may be able to claim for the pain and suffering caused by the illness that you sustained.
