Irwin Mitchell has recently received a number of enquiries from clients complaining of illness that they have contracted whilst travelling on board the Independence of the Seas cruise ship this year.
Holiday makers on board the ship suffered symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, severe abdominal cramps, dizziness, lethargy, shakes, dehydration, and the emotional distress that has been suffered as a result of experiencing such a serious illness. Some of these symptoms are still being experienced by clients to date and have affected their quality of life upon return to the UK.
Royal Caribbean, the provider, state on their website that – “this ship offers all of the amazing onboard experiences you'd expect from our Freedom Class of ships”. Our client’s experiences were far from amazing whilst on board the ship, many were quarantined to their cabins by staff onboard due to severe illness and therefore did not see much of they holiday they paid so much to enjoy.
Other issues have been highlighted by the clients including poor management and health care whilst on board the ship, low value and low quality food served, and the huge misrepresentation of the holiday to the clients at the time of booking the cruise.
Irwin Mitchell is currently representing clients who travelled on this cruise ship in, 2008, 2009, 2010 and now 2011. It is clear that vital lessons have not been learned by Royal Caribbean as they continue to put their customer’s health at risk.
We look forward to investigating this case and urge victims of illness or pain and suffering caused by the cruise to contact us as you may be able to claim compensation for their ruined holiday.
