Sol Rio de Luna y Mares Resort - Cuba

International travel experts at Irwin Mitchell are continuing to receive instructions off holidaymakers who stayed at the Sol Rio De Luna y Mares, in Cuba who are returning from their holidays complaining of severe gastric illness.

Most recent reports of illness are from January 2012, however, we have previously acted for clients who holidayed at the Sol Rio De Luna in September 2011, who also fell ill with similar symptoms, allegedly as a result of the poor standards of food hygiene at the hotel. We have been made aware that weddings have been ruined and large numbers of holidaymakers have fallen ill at the resort.

It is alarming to learn that such problems continue at the hotel, with recent reports suggesting that holidaymakers have contracted serious bacterial infections as a result of a breakdown in food hygiene procedures. Such infections can leave permanent symptoms including an alteration of bowel habit, stomach pains and irritable bowel syndrome.

Reports indicate that the cause of the gastric illnesses may have been due to the poor quality of food and lack of hygiene standards practised at the hotel. In particular, holidaymakers have reported that food was served uncovered and that it appeared to be reheated and represented later in the day. New food was added on top of existing food. Pest control was also said to be a real problem with birds being observed in the restaurant and kitchen areas. Holidaymakers have also reported that there were strange smells which were emanating from the pool and the poolside area was littered. It is reported that guests suffered from symptoms including diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps as well as nausea and loss of appetite.

If you also stayed at this hotel and suffered gastric illness, Irwin Mitchell would like to hear from you as you may be able to claim compensation for your ruined holiday, and also, the pain and suffering caused by the illness that you have suffered.
