Irwin Mitchell are highly concerned for holidaymakers after hearing of further outbreaks of Salmonella food poisoning at this hotel during the late months of 2010. Irwin Mitchell is acting for holidaymakers following receiving enquiries regarding an illness outbreak at the Excellence Hotel in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
Holidaymakers have complained about the quality of food served and about the health and hygiene standards at the hotel. Complaints have included sightings of insects and flies in an around the buffet areas, reports of food being left uncovered, reports of food sometimes appearing to be re-served and re-heated and reports of cutlery and crockery not being clean.
Mr Darren Easton and his partner were staying at the hotel to celebrate their honeymoon in 2009. They had envisaged that the experience would be a memorable one however although it was memorable it was so for all the wrong reasons. The couple were disappointed with the quality of food served. They experienced food such as chicken dishes that were undercooked; they reported food that was not served at the correct temperature and were disappointed to note food from earlier sittings was being re served at later sittings.
Both Mr Easton and his partner fell severely ill suffering with symptoms of stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting. Mr Easton’s honeymoon was further ruined because his partner was so ill that she had to be treated in hospital whilst abroad.
What was meant to be the couple's honeymoon and most memorable holiday turned into a very traumatising and emotional experience for the couple. Both clients are pursuing a claim for compensation through Irwin Mitchell.
