Irwin Mitchell were made aware of an outbreak of illness at the Casa Marina Reef Hotel in the Dominican Republic that occurred in the summer of 2008 after their clients’ holidays at the hotel were ruined due illness suffered which in some cases led to hospitalisation.
Travel law experts at Irwin Mitchell are acting for the group of holidaymakers, many of whom suffered serious gastric illness while staying at the all-inclusive hotel. After arriving at the hotel many guests fell ill suffering from symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
Guests complained about the general poor standard of food on offer at the hotel. There were also complaints of undercooked food, as well as food not being served at the correct temperature. Many complained of recycled and uncovered food with large number of flies crawling over the food on numerous occasions.
In addition, in their initial meetings with their tour representative guests have reported being told not to venture further than a certain area on the resort map because a hotel guest had been mugged on a previous occasion which made many of them uneasy.
