Sofitel Taba Heights, Egypt

Irwin Mitchell has once again learnt that a number of holidaymakers staying at the Sofitel Taba Heights in Egypt are returning from their holidays complaining of severe gastric illness.

Most recent reports of illness are from December 2011, however, we are acting for clients who holidayed at the Sofitel Taba Heights resort in Egypt, in the summers of 2008, 2009 and 2010 who also fell ill with severe gastric symptoms, allegedly as a result of the poor standards of food hygiene at the hotel.

It is alarming to learn that such problems continue at the hotel, with recent reports suggesting that holidaymakers have contracted serious bacterial infections as a result of a breakdown in food hygiene procedures. Such infections can leave permanent symptoms including an alteration of bowel habit, stomach pains and irritable bowels syndrome.

Reports indicate that the cause of the gastric illnesses may have been due to the poor quality of food and lack of hygiene standards practised at the hotel with reports of insects around food serving stations. In particular, the holidaymakers have reported that the food was served undercooked and recycled food was displayed uncovered for long periods of time. It is reported that guests suffered from symptoms including violent diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps.
