Irwin Mitchell is alarmed to hear that holidaymakers who stayed at the Reef Oasis Blue Bay Resort and Spa in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt have become ill with symptoms of gastric illness. It is reported that a large number of guests contracted symptoms of diarrhoea, stomach cramps and fatigue. The severity of the symptoms have caused a number of guests to take time off from work upon returning to the UK and to seek medical attention.
Heightening our concern is the fact that there have been reports of illness at this hotel previously in August 2009, where holidaymakers reported symptoms of gastric illness and a number of whom were confirmed to have contracted Salmonella food poisoning, a severe bacterial infection which can cause permanent IBS type symptoms. Poor standards of maintenance were also reported. Irwin Mitchell is currently acting for clients who stayed at the hotel during August 2009 and it is concerning to learn that the problems at the hotel are ongoing.
