Irwin Mitchell’s leading International Travel Litigation team has once again been approached by a number of holidaymakers staying at the Orquidea Hotel in Gran Canaria who are returning from their holidays complaining of severe gastric illness.
Most recent reports of illness are from December 2011, however, we have successfully acted for holidaymakers who staying at this hotel in previous years, who also fell ill with similar symptoms, allegedly as a result of the poor standards of food hygiene at the hotel. Irwin Mitchell has been able to recover a large amount of compensation.
It is alarming to learn that such problems continue at the hotel, with recent reports suggesting that holidaymakers have contracted serious bacterial infections as a result of a breakdown in food hygiene procedures. Such infections can leave permanent symptoms including an alteration of bowel habit, stomach pains and irritable bowel syndrome.
Reports indicate that the cause of the gastric illnesses may have been due to the poor quality of food and lack of hygiene standards practised at the hotel with reports of insects crawling on the food. Holidaymakers have commented that there were more insects inside than outside. In particular, the holidaymakers have reported that food was served uncovered and that it appeared to be reheated and represented later in the day. It is reported that guests suffered from symptoms including violent diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps. Comments on the consumer website TripAdvisor confirm that other holidaymakers have experienced similar problems at this hotel.
If you also stayed at the Hotel Orquidea and suffered gastric illness, Irwin Mitchell would like to hear from you as you may be able to claim compensation for your ruined holiday, and also, the pain and suffering caused by the illness that you have suffered.
