It is reported that a large number of holidaymakers have experienced symptoms of gastric illness as a result of their holiday at the Kuredu Island Hotel in the Maldives between 6 September and 20 September 2009 with confirmed case of salmonella.
Significant numbers of holidaymakers are reported to be suffering from symptoms of gastric illness including diarrhoea and stomach pains.
A number of quality issues in relation to health and hygiene are also alleged in relation to the hotel which is based in the Lhaviyani Atoll area of the Maldives. There have been complaints in relating to food being left uncovered for lengthy periods of time and that the same food tongs were used for different dishes include hot and cold dishes. Other complaints include insects were seen on the food, the cutlery was dirty and that ice cubes were formed from tap water.
Irwin Mitchell has also acted for holidaymakers who have suffered from symptoms of gastric illness as a result of their stay at this hotel in previous years. Damages of more than £50,000 were awarded after at least one guest contracted Salmonella following an all-inclusive holiday to the Kuredu Island Hotel.
