Irwin Mitchell is concerned for holidaymakers who are returning from or are due to visit the Hesperia Playas de Mallorca Hotel, located in Majorca, Spain, after receiving reports of gastric illness amongst holidaymakers returning from the hotel. Recent reports relate to holidays taken in May 2011.
Reports have suggested that there was a smell of drainage throughout the resort and that the air conditioning had broken in the hotel reception, bars and dining rooms. It has also been suggested that the food served by the hotel was repetitive, allegedly being the same on each occasion. It is possible that a lack in hygiene procedures and food handling procedures could have been the cause of illness.
It has also been reported that a group of four holidaymakers all fell ill at various points throughout their holiday with the gastric illness, experiencing symptoms of diarrhoea and sickness. The family have reported how they were required to seek medical attention whilst in resort and that the emergency doctor was called to administer medication, so that they could fly home.
