Here at Irwin Mitchell we are concerned to hear of a further outbreak of illness at the Marconfort Beach Club Hotel in Torremolinos. Recent reports have indicated that holidaymakers are returning from their holidays taken in 2011, suffering from symptoms of gastric illness.
Holidaymakers have reported that hot food was served lukewarm and cold food was not properly chilled, there have also been concerns of foods being served again and effectively being reused. Reports would indicate that the cause of the gastric illness may have been due to the poor quality of food and lack of hygiene standards practiced at the hotel. It is reported that many holidaymakers were falling ill with symptoms of severe diarrhoea and sickness, accompanied by painful stomach cramps. It is also reported that food was served cold which ultimately led to holidaymakers suffering from illness.
To date, Irwin Mitchell has successfully represented over 1,000 holidaymakers who stayed at the hotel previously named the Hotel Torremolinos Beach Club between 1999 and 2006, winning payouts from 7 different tour operators totalling several million pounds.
Here at Irwin Mitchell we have acted for holidaymakers who were affected by illness at this hotel in 2007, 2008 and 2009. It is unfortunate to learn that lessons are not being learnt by tour operators to protect holidaymakers from such outbreaks.
And the firm’s Head of the Travel Law, Clive Garner, said: "This hotel has a disturbing history. Over recent years, we have helped nearly 1100 British guests win fair compensation for the illnesses they contracted at this hotel. Some of our clients still continue to suffer illness today and the total number of guests who became ill at the Beach Club is likely to be far higher than this.
"Although the levels of complaints have varied from time to time, and certainly many lucky holidaymakers have enjoyed an illness free stay there, this is little comfort to the hundreds who have suffered serious illness, sometimes with long term consequences. All reasonable action should be taken by hotel management and tour operators to ensure that hotels are safe for all of their guests.
“Hundreds of past guests have suffered serious illness including Salmonella as a result of staying at this hotel. It is a matter of real concern that we are now hearing reports of yet more illness amongst recent guests.
If you also travelled to this hotel and suffered from gastric illness, Irwin Mitchell would like to hear from you as you may be able to claim compensation for your ruined holiday, and also, the pain and suffering caused by the illness that you sustained.
