It is also report that many people staying at the hotel had fallen ill with symptoms of gastric illness, suspected to be food poisoning. It has been suggested that the food served at the hotel was often undercooked, with most of the food being left uncovered and swarming with flies. It is possible that the illness experienced by holidaymakers was due to a breakdown in food handling and food hygiene procedures.
