Irwin Mitchell represented a family of six clients; three adults and 3 children.
On 18 May 2008 the family went on a holiday to the Bodrum Princess Hotel, Turkey in celebration of one of our client's 40 birthday. Unfortunately, within the first week of the holiday, two of the children developed severe diarrhoea, vomiting, and abdominal pains.
The family made numerous quality complaints including the food being undercooked, recycled, and contaminated with flies and other insects. Further, birds were seen landing on the restaurant table, and picking at left over's.
The children were diagnosed with salmonella poisoning on return from holiday. The tour operator, Thomson, admitted it was liable and the family were awarded nearly £7,500 in damages for the children's illness and their ruined holiday caused by the poor hygiene standards at the hotel.
