Bone Contamination Cases

Published date: 08 Aug 2007

We are currently acting for a number of clients who have had potentially contaminated bone implanted into them during medical procedures in the UK on the NHS.

Bone Contamination Claim

It is alleged that the bone was taken illegally from mortuaries in New York and then sold to New Jersey tissue recovery business Biomedical Tissue Services (BTS).  Some of this material was then exported to the UK and supplied to over 20 hospitals in England and Wales.  Despite a recall in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) it was too late to retrieve all pieces of bone from British hospitals and some of them had already been used on a number of UK patients by the time of the recall.

BTS was forced to close by the US Food and Drug Administration after allegations that it had forged documents to obtain access to bodies from undertakers.  Criminal proceedings are ongoing in the US against a number of individuals connected with the scandal.

Our clients are joining ongoing litigation in the United States to recover compensation for the risk that they may contract diseases, including Hepatitis, Syphilis and HIV, as a result of the implantation of the bone as well as other health problems that are likely to occur.

If you have received bone or other tissue which may be potentially contaminated and you are considering making a claim, either call 0870 024 0560 or fill in our enquiry form:-
