Ceiling collapses on young mother while on holiday in Tenerife

Mr and Mrs L took their ten month old baby and their family on holiday to Tenerife in early June 2011, after booking their package holiday with Thomson.

On the third day of the luxury trip, Mrs L was showering when the ceiling in the bathroom caved in. Plaster and large chunks of concrete fell onto her head. The force of these pieces of rubble falling onto her caused Mrs L to fall onto the floor of the bathtub. Mrs L suffered an open wound to her forehead, dizziness and painful headaches. Mrs L was in shock following the incident, which ruined the rest of her holiday. She struggled to look after her ten month old baby as a result of her injuries.

Mrs L is concerned that the hotel bathroom was in such a poor state of repair that the ceiling fell down. Just moments before she showered, her baby had been in the bath and she is concerned that other holiday makers could be injured if Thomson do not investigate the incident and adopt more stringent maintenance checks.

Irwin Mitchell have been instructed to investigate a claim for personal injury against Thomsons, which will include a claim for compensation to reflect the fact that the family’s holiday was ruined by the ordeal.
