Moroccan Coach Crash

On 11 January 2000 our clients were travelling on a minibus tour to visit the Dades Gorge in the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco. At one point during the journey, the driver was driving too fast and lost control of the minibus on a patch of compacted snow on a left hand corner and began to skid. Instead of turning into the skid, the driver turned out of the skid and therefore the minibus careered to the very edge of the road and towards a drop over the side of the cliff. When the driver saw this he braked hard and this sudden braking movement catapulted the minibus over the edge of the cliff and it fell a distance of about 35 feet.
As a result of the accident injuries of varying severity were sustained including Mr W who sustained soft tissue injuries to his back, neck and arms, bruised ribs and a psychological injury and Ms T who sustained a fracture to her right hand, a broken rib to her left side, a torn ligament in her back, a severe whiplash injury and post traumatic stress disorder.
We proceeded against the tour operator, Headwater Holidays as the trip was part of a package holiday.
We were successful with the claim and recovered compensation in the total sum of £182,835 for the whole group.
