Fall Through Patio Door at Corfu Hotel
Irwin Mitchell acted for a child from Sheffield who sustained injury whilst staying at a hotel in Corfu in August 2004.
Within hours of arriving at the hotel, the child, whilst changing into his swimming trunks stumbled against the glass patio door in their hotel room.
He was injured by a large shard of glass cutting through his left side round to his back. He was immediately taken to a clinic, but received stitches without anaesthetic.
The tour operator was unhelpful in providing assistance for the return flights and the family had to make arrangements themselves.
Upon returning to the UK, the child’s mother had to take her son to hospital for further treatment. He has made a good recovery but has ongoing scars.
Irwin Mitchell brought a claim against the tour operator for compensation for the accident on the basis that the Corfu hotel was at fault.
The child recovered £6,750 in damages.
The child’s parents said after the settlement:
"Jenny Brooks was very professional and efficient in handling my son’s claim."
