Slip on Hotel Steps Caused by Over-Flowing Air Conditioning Unit
Our client was on a package holiday with Thomas Cook, staying in self catering apartments. There was an air conditioning unit on the outside of the apartment, above and to the right of the front door. The unit was drained by means of a pipe leading into a water bottle situated outside the front door, on the veranda. Over the course of the first few days of the holiday, the bottle overflowed a number of times. The client’s husband warned the apartment’s cleaners on a number of occasions, but nothing was done.
On the date of the accident, the client had been out to dinner. She walked back to her apartment with her husband and started to walk up the three steps leading to the veranda. She slipped on the second step. The bottle had overflowed and flooded the veranda and the steps. She fell heavily on her left wrist, fracturing it.
We advised her to pursue a claim against Thomas Cook. We succeeded in recovering compensation of £15,000 for her.
