Paraiso Del Sol Hotel
Irwin Mitchell LLP have been successful in recovering damages of over £270,000 from Tour Operator My Travel on behalf of 66 holidaymakers who stayed at the Paraiso Del Sol Hotel between November 2004 and May 2005.
The holidaymakers noted problems about the quality of the accommodation including cockroaches in the hotel rooms, flies on the food in the hotel restaurant and food that was left uncovered for several hours.
Whilst on holiday many of the holidaymakers began suffering from symptoms including diarrhoea, stomach pains and vomiting. Unfortunately many of the group of holidaymakers, including children, have gone on to develop long term health complications including Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
The Tour Operator My Travel admitted liability for the illnesses suffered by the holidaymakers.
Marc Stringer, 29, from Margate in Kent went on holiday to the Paraiso Del Sol Resort in the Dominican Republic in April 2005. Within only 3 days of arriving at the hotel he fell ill with severe diarrhoea and stomach cramps. His symptoms were so severe that he required medical attention in the resort and was put on an intravenous drip to treat him for dehydration.
Mr Stringer continued to suffer with symptoms upon his return to the UK and has been diagnosed with post-infective bowel syndrome which could take years to recover from and may be permanent. Mr Stringer settled his claim for compensation against My Travel for £5,925. The highest award for the most seriously ill of our clients was over £18,000.
