Compensation after ruined holidays at Victoria Resort Hotel
Holidaymakers win almost £56,500 in compensation after ruined holidays at the Victoria Resort Hotel in Playa Dorada, Dominican Republic in 1997
Irwin Mitchell represented 11 holidaymakers, including one honeymoon couple, who stayed at the Victoria Resort Hotel in 1997 and whose holidays were ruined when a breakdown in food hygiene procedures at the hotel caused all of them to suffer unpleasant gastric illness. The holidaymakers noticed that food was left out, uncovered, for long periods of time and was often undercooked. The swimming pool area was dirty and in general the hotel did not appear to be properly cleaned.
Fortunately, most of our clients recovered to full health within 3 months. However, one person went on to develop Irritable Bowel Syndrome as a result of the infection contracted during the holiday.
Tour operator JMC Holidays Ltd denied liability but following negotiations our clients were awarded almost £56,500 in compensation. The tour operator also agreed to cover their legal costs.
