African Safari Club Hotel, Kenya

£43,000 recovered after salmonella and campylobacter ruin holidays at the African Safari Club Hotel, Kenya

Irwin Mitchell represented a group of 14 clients who travelled to the African Safari Club Hotel, Kenya between December 2004 and February 2005. The group had their holidays ruined due to failures within the hotel that led to a vital break down in health and hygiene procedures which resulted in guests falling ill with gastric illness.

All of the claimants suffered from gastric symptoms such as diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. Two clients tested positive for salmonella and campylobacter which are both food borne illnesses and which raised concerns about the food and hygiene practices at the hotel.  Guests had an array of quality complaints that mainly centred on the poor quality of the food at the hotel and the lower than expected standard of the accommodation.

Following a legal battle against the hotelier in Kenya, Irwin Mitchell was able to negotiate settlement just days before a 10 day trial was due to begin.  Damages across the group totalled £43,000.

I was delighted with the service and support offered by Irwin Mitchell throughout my case. They regularly kept me update with the progress of the case and in the end they managed to secure £9,500 for me in compensation which I was very pleased about.
