72 holidaymakers win over £155,000 after holidaying at the Praia de Rocha Hotel, Portugal in 1997 and 1998

Irwin Mitchell were successful in recovering compensation for 72 people who stayed at the Praia de Rocha Hotel in Portugal after a breakdown in food hygiene procedures at the hotel resulted in 40 of the holidaymakers contracting gastric illness and their holidays being ruined as a result.  

JMC Holidays Limited admitted that they were liable for the claims and settlement negotiations resulted in Irwin Mitchell recovering over £155,000 in compensation for our clients.

Fortunately, all but 10 of Irwin Mitchell’s clients recovered from their illnesses within a month and none were ill for longer than 6 months. The highest award for the most seriously ill of our clients was almost £5,000. 

Mr and Mrs P went on an all-inclusive holiday to the Praia de Rocha Hotel to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. Towards the end of the holiday they both fell illness suffering from diarrhoea and stomach cramps.  Mrs P recovered after just 4 days and her husband was back to full health in 24 days.  After negotiations with the Defendant, Irwin Mitchell were able to achieve a settlement of over £4,700 for Mrs P and almost £5,000 for Mr P.
