£2 million paid by Thomson to 383 Disappointed Holidaymakers
Irwin Mitchell acted for 383 clients who stayed at the Hotel Presidente, Ibiza, Spain and in three other hotels in the Mediterranean whilst on Thomson package holidays.
The clients suffered gastric illness because of poor hygiene standards at the hotels they were staying in. Some were diagnosed as suffering from infections such as salmonella, campylobacter and giardiasis. Many, including young children, were very ill and some were even admitted to hospital for emergency treatment.
Widespread illness led clients to fear its cause. Clients reported that the Thomson Representatives were unhelpful when they tried to voice their concerns. Some of our clients have been psychologically affected by the experience. Others have been left with permanent conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Irwin Mitchell started Court proceedings against Thomson’s on behalf of their clients and, following this negotiations commenced and Irwin Mitchell were able to settle all the claims successfully. Irwin Mitchell obtained compensation of almost £2 million with most clients receiving at least £5,000 each. The most seriously ill client received over £30,000 in compensation.

When I tried to deal with the tour operator myself, I got nowhere and I almost lost heart. Without the help of Irwin Mitchell’s travel team, I would have given up.
