Clinical Negligence Claim in Switzerland
Our client was on holiday in Zermatt, Switzerland, when she slipped on ice and fractured her wrist.
She was admitted to a hospital in Switzerland that evening and had an operation under local anaesthetic, during which pins and plates were inserted into the wrist.
Our client then returned to the UK and consulted her GP. Her GP referred her to a consultant at her local hospital and x-rays were taken. The consultant, in the UK hospital, advised our client that the operation in Switzerland had not been performed properly. The bone had set incorrectly and the dislocation had not been put back properly. Another operation would therefore be required. Our client also unfortunately developed complex regional pain syndrome.
We advised the client to pursue a claim against the Swiss hospital.
The Swiss hospital’s insurers have now accepted liability for the negligently performed operation and have agreed to pay compensation to the client.
