Road Traffic Accident Menorca

Published date: 29 Oct 2007

£77,678 Recovered following road traffic accident in Menorca

Accident on 18th September 2001. Our client was a passenger in a hire car, being driven by her husband in Menorca, Spain, along the PMV-7107 road between Mahon and La Mula.  Our client’s husband, drove the vehicle on the wrong side of the road and collided with another car.

Liability was admitted by the Defendant.

Our client, sustained a fracture dislocation of C6/C7 with forward displacement in addition to a Monteggia fracture dislocation of her right elbow and forearm. She attended the Sondurat Hospital in Mallorca where she underwent surgery to stabilise the injury to her cervical spine and her right arm was put in a plaster slab.

On her return to the UK she received treatment at the Manor Hospital in Biddenham and underwent further surgery at the Bedford Hospital, followed by a lengthy period of rehabilitation by both physiotherapists and occupational therapists. She was then referred to a consultant in pain relief at the Bedford Hospital who diagnosed complex regional pain syndrome.

Prior to the accident, the Claimant was working as a self-employed complementary health practitioner/holistic therapist. As a result of her injuries, she was unable to return to work until November 2002, at which point she returned on a part-time basis. However, as a result of the injuries sustained she was ultimately forced to give up this employment and seek an alternative career.

The claim was settled for £77678.00.
