British Holidaymakers Compensated After A Nile Cruise

Eight British holidaymakers received in excess of £12,000 in compensation after they became ill with symptoms of diarrhoea, sickness and stomach cramps following a cruise along the Nile in Egypt on board the MS Salacia.

The package holidays, which included full board accommodation on board the MS Salacia, were taken on various dates between 4th November 2002 and 2nd December 2002.

All of the eight holidaymakers that Irwin Mitchell represented suffered symptoms of diarrhoea and sickness to varying degrees.

Although the ship had been advertised as a flagship vessel, British holidaymakers were disappointed with the standard of accommodation provided. The decoration in the cabins was described as old and dated and the cabins were not cleaned thoroughly.

Holidaymakers also commented that the food was only lukewarm and not very
appetising. Guests reported concerns over the food being reheated and
reused throughout the day.

A number of holidaymakers received treatment whilst they were in Egypt and
one holidaymaker describes being so ill that he could not leave his room for a
couple of days. He had to cancel a romantic balloon ride he had booked
because of his illness.

After negotiations with the Defendant an out of court settlement was agreed
and over £15,000 was recovered in damages.
