€50,000 In Damages Awarded To British Skier After Fall From Ski Lift In Italy
We acted on behalf of a 65 year old gentleman from Hertfordshire, who fell about 30 feet from a ski lift bucket in Alagna, Italy in 2005. Our client sustained various injuries, including to his wrists, heel and teeth. His injuries were worse than they would have been because he fell onto some steel beams on the floor below.
Our client was flown to hospital for emergency treatment in Italy. He then had months of physiotherapy when he returned to the UK.
Responsibility for the accident was complex. We argued that the accident happened because an employee at the ski resort failed to close the bucket properly. The Defendant's Insurers argued that our client ran and jumped into the bucket, which caused it to swing, and because of this the employee could not reach the bucket gate to close it.
The Defendant's Insurers strongly fought the claim, however, after a full investigation, we managed to secure damages of €50,000 for our client.
