Skiing Accident in Switzerland

On 18 February 2007, Sue Hofman was skiing with her friends on a blue piste when suddenly a Swiss skier, skiing with high speed, collided with her from behind.

The shock of the collision made Mrs Hofman fall and she sustained a double fracture of her right leg.  She was taken to the local hospital in Switzerland and was admitted to the A & E department.  Mrs Hofman required surgery with pins placed in her right leg.  As a result, Mrs Hofman's mobility was impaired for several weeks following the accident.  She also required a second surgery in the UK to remove the pins.

Mrs Hofman is an art teacher.  As a result of the accident, she was unable to attend work for several weeks.  She was also restricted in her movements and was inconvenienced in keeping her household, doing her usual shopping, driving and picking up her children from school.

The compensation awards are generally lower in Switzerland than in the UK Courts, however, we were able to negotiate an amicable settlement with the Defendant's insurers and obtain compensation for Mrs Hofman for her pain and suffering, loss of earnings, maintenance of her household, medical and travel expenses in the amount of £ 3, 101.19, the sterling equivalent of 5,500 CHF.
