Irwin Mitchell have been instructed by holidaymakers who have returned from the Royal Park Hotel in Bulgaria with gastric illness. Despite some positive reviews, there are also reports on a consumer forum that holidaymakers are returning from their holidays having suffered from symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting.
Guests who stayed at the hotel have reported being concerned by a number of issues, with instances of food being served luke warm and chicken which was served pink in the middle. Some of the food was repeatedly left uncovered and flies were also seen on and around some of the food.
Irwin Mitchell have recently successfully settled 281 holidaymakers claims who stayed at this hotel in 2008 with damages amounting to over half a million pounds. Irwin Mitchell’s travel experts say the latest settlement serves as a lesson to all tour operators of the importance of ensuring the hotels to which they are sending guests have health and hygiene standards at the top of their agenda. All 281 guests stayed at the Royal Park between June and October 2008 with the majority of them falling ill. Some holidaymakers had to seek medical treatment on return to the UK and just over thirty needed hospital attention due to the severity of their symptoms. Guests recounted experiences including poor food hygiene standards and poor general cleanliness, as well as a care-free attitude from tour reps. They also reported that regular power cuts caused fridges and freezers to stop working. First Choice denied responsibility for the guests’ sickness forcing Irwin Mitchell to issue proceedings at court, before the tour operator finally agreed to pay over half a million pounds shortly before a trial was due to be listed.
Further, Irwin Mitchell have previously settled nearly 100 previous cases from 2004, 2005 and 2007 which saw hotel guests receive nearly £200,000 and is now also acting for more than 20 additional guests who suffered illness at the same hotel in 2010 after travelling to the hotel with other tour operators.
