This Old Barn restaurant, Canada

The specialist International Travel litigation Team at Irwin Mitchell has received reports of suspected norovirus outbreak at ‘This Old Barn’ restaurant in Canada.

Recent reports suggest that at least 126 diners at the restaurant have been affected by illness.  The district health unit in the area is looking into the cause of the outbreak that struck the people who visited the restaurant between 11th and 13th May 2012.

It is also reported that the water system at the restaurant has been investigated and it is reported that tests have found E. coli in the water. E. coli can cause many symptoms of illness including diarrhoea, vomiting and fever as well as symptoms as serious as renal failure (kidney failure) and heart hypertension.

Although the source of the outbreak has not yet been identified, it is possible that the illnesses experienced by diners were due to a breakdown in food handling and food hygiene procedures.  Investigators are now looking into these possibilities.

Irwin Mitchell, who specialise in dealing with cases of such nature, would like to hear from you if you have suffered from gastric illness or sustained an injury whilst visiting this restaurant.
