ClubHotel Riu Karamboa, Cape Verde, September-October 2017

The International Personal Injury Team at Irwin Mitchell are concerned by recent reports of guests falling ill with gastric symptoms at the Club Hotel Riu Karamboa in Cape Verde on various dates in September and October 2017. We have been contacted by over a dozen holidaymakers, some of whom who have been affected by illness at the hotel.

One couple became ill with symptoms including diarrhoea and stomach cramps. One holidaymaker who contacted us was diagnosed with Salmonella when they got home and several others have reported suffering similar symptoms - some still ongoing.

Despite positive reviews of the hotel online, we have seen reports of holidaymakers falling ill during their stay. One person who travelled in September was told by a doctor in resort that the infection had been present for over three weeks. Others have complained about the quality of the food, observing flies in the pasta sauce and also in the chilled containers with fruit and butter. They also sometimes saw cats around the restaurant areas.

Although Salmonella can be contracted in a number of different ways, it is usually contracted by eating contaminated food. Food can become contaminated by storing raw and cooked foods together.

The most common symptoms are diarrhoea, stomach cramps and vomiting. Young children and the elderly are most at risk of becoming severely ill. In very serious cases, Salmonella can cause symptoms for a number of years or even indefinitely.

We have significant experience in helping people unfortunate enough to contract gastric illnesses such as Salmonella and we know the potential long term effects, with permanent long term complications sometimes arising such as Post infective Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

If you have also travelled to the Club Hotel Riu Karamboa in Cape Verde and subsequently fallen ill, Irwin Mitchell, who specialise in dealing with cases of such nature, would like to hear from you.
