Balmoral Cruise Ship. 2016

We're concerned to learn about guests falling ill with gastric symptoms while aboard the Balmoral Cruise Ship in July/August 2016.

Our International Personal Injury team has been advised of a significant outbreak of illness on board the ship, with many passengers and family members being quarantined in their cabins after experiencing symptoms of gastric illness. Many have also been forced to seek medical treatment on board the ship.

One couple who has been in touch travelled on board the ship to celebrate their pearl wedding anniversary, only to be confined to their cabin after one of them began suffering from illness. They were then forced to contact a member of crew on board when raw sewage began flooding the cabin from their bathroom.

Irwin Mitchell’s specialist travel lawyers were asked to help over 60 passengers who voyaged on various Balmoral cruises throughout May 2015, including the Norwegian Fjords Cruise, which began on May 3rd 2015; the Islands of the Azores and Madeira Cruise, which began on 11th May 2015; and the European City Break cruise, which began on 24th May 2015.

Jennifer Mullins, a Solicitor and specialist in International Personal Injury cases at Irwin Mitchell, said: “Having heard first-hand accounts of what passengers faced during the outbreak in 2015, we’re concerned to see further reports of illness emerge on board the Balmoral in 2016 which appears to be a significant outbreak.”

Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in stools. We have significant experience assisting those unfortunate enough to contract gastric illness and we know the potential long term effects that can arise, including permanent long term complications such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

If you also travelled on board the Balmoral cruise ship and have subsequently suffered from symptoms of illness, we would like to hear from you. We specialise in dealing with cases of this nature and may be able to help you make a claim.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
