Island Escape Cruise 2013
Irwin Mitchell has been instructed to act on behalf of a British couple who returned from their holiday on board the Island Escape. The couple from Bury are amongst a number of passengers who have reportedly suffered from symptoms of sickness and severe coughing whilst on board the cruise which returned to the UK on the 26th March 2013.
The client estimated that approximately 200 other people were suffering from similar symptoms on board the cruise.
Irwin Mitchell is currently representing over 190 passengers, many of whom were affected by illness during or following stays on board the vessel between December 2009 and June 2010. Some of them continue to suffer from symptoms of gastric illness more than two years after they returned home. Irwin Mitchell also represents passengers who were affected by illness on board the cruise ship in 2011 and 2012.
Passengers have raised concerns over the level of hygiene standards and the poor quality of service and food provided to them and have reported reheated food being served in the restaurant as well as undercooked food being served on occasions, with their complaints echoing those made by victims of illness on board the Island Escape in previous years.
It is possible that the illnesses experienced by holidaymakers were due to a breakdown in hygiene procedures on board the vessel, as well as a failure to prevent and maintain the spread of illness amongst holidaymakers.
