Concerns Raised Over another Oriana Cruise Ship ‘Illness Outbreak’

Legal experts who already represent over 30 passengers struck by illness problems on the Oriana in December 2012 and other vessels have revealed their concern after reports of others suffering with illness on the vessel earlier this month.

It is understood that a number of passengers have been struck down with gastric illness whilst onboard the ship, which returned on Sunday, 9th June after a tour of the Western Mediterranean.

Irwin Mitchell’s specialist illness lawyers have vast experience in acting for those struck by outbreaks in holiday resorts in the UK and abroad, as well as those affected by illness onboard cruise ships.

Amandeep Dhillon, an expert in illness claims at the national law firm, said: “While there remains some doubt over the exact number of people affected by these latest problems, it is clear that passengers will be seeking answers over this outbreak and its impact on those who have suffered illness.”

“We would urge the cruise ship operator to work quickly and thoroughly to ensure they are doing everything they can to minimise the risks faced by passengers, as the welfare of those still on board remains a top priority. The authorities will then need to undertake a full investigation and assessment of the hygiene standards implemented throughout this journey.

“Such work should go some way to gaining answers over the ordeals that passengers have faced, as well as providing reassurances that lessons can be learned to help prevent the same issues from occurring again.”
