Jewels of Japan Cruise, Queen Elizabeth - March 2016

We’ve been contacted by a passenger who recently returned from a Jewels of Japan cruise, which ended on 30 March 2016 in Hong Kong. While on board the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, the passenger suffered gastric symptoms, including sickness, diarrhoea and stomach pain. 

We’ve read reports estimating approximately 150 staff and passengers were suffering from similar symptoms on board the ship. The passenger told us they received a letter during the cruise informing them that there was a norovirus outbreak on the ship, and that an announcement was also made. 

Reports suggest that the outbreak began in early March. The passenger who contacted us had boarded the ship on 20 March 2016 – they were concerned that no warning was given about the norovirus outbreak before the cruise set sail.  

The passenger continues to suffer illness even now they have returned home.
