Marco Polo Cruise, 2011
Irwin Mitchell is concerned to learn of reports of problems on board the Marco Polo cruise ship. Reports confirm that dozens of holiday makers have contracted symptoms of gastric illness on board the cruise ship during December 2011.
Irwin Mitchell is eager to hear from anyone who has contracted illness or sustained an injury during their holiday on board the Marco Polo cruise ship.
Irwin Mitchell represented 16 clients, 10 of which have now settled, who contracted gastric illness in 2009. Irwin Mitchell is therefore concerned to learn of these further reports of illness.
Holidaymakers who have contracted the Norovirus on the Marco Polo vessel suffered from symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea and certain clients were left hospitalized and put on a drip due to suffering from dehydration.
Passengers on board a Marco Polo cruise in 2009 stated that due to the lack of information provided by staff on board the vessel, they had little knowledge other than that many people were falling ill and they only realised the true extent of the illness on the cruise after talking to other passengers.
Holidaymakers also reported that elderly passengers were still being allowed to board the Marco Polo ship without being told about the outbreak which put them at a significant risk of contracting illness. Holidaymakers were also disappointed in the health and hygiene procedures in place and felt that the tour-operator should have clearly made them aware of the illness outbreak before allowing them to board the vessel.
When the Marco Polo vessel docked at a port halfway through the cruise an ambulance was present due to high number of passengers suffering from Norovirus.
Irwin Mitchell note reports that four passengers had to be removed from the ship and treated for suspected Norovirus in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, after the ship cut-short its cruise and docked at Invergordon, Scotland.
Irwin Mitchell also note reports that a 74 year old passenger onboard the Marco Polo Cruise Ship in 2009 died after suffering a heart attack. He was said to be vomiting violently the night before he died and over 150 other passengers were suffering symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
