We’ve seen recent reports on Trip Advisor from holidaymakers who have suffered with gastric illness while staying at the Iberostar Laguna Azul in Cuba during February and March this year.
Despite some positive reviews of the hotel on Trip Advisor, several tourists have complained of suffering from gastric symptoms – including diarrhoea, abdominal pain and vomiting. One guest required hospital treatment.
There were several complaints about the food hygiene practices at the hotel. On one occasion, birds were seen pecking at the desserts – and bird droppings were later noticed on the dessert table. Guests also noticed a significant number of flies in the main restaurant on occasion. One holidaymaker also complained about the temperature of the food, stating that it was sometimes only lukewarm.
Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in stools. We have significant experience helping those unlucky enough to contract gastric illness while on holiday.
