Melia Cayo Guillermo Hotel, November 2016

Irwin Mitchell have been contacted by a British couple who travelled to the Melia Cayo Guillermo in Cuba for an all inclusive holiday.

The couple became ill while staying at the resort with symptoms which included diarrhoea and stomach cramps. Medical attention was sought at the hotel, with the hotel doctor diagnosing gastroenteritis.

Despite some positive reviews, the couple noticed that some of the food was lukewarm and some food did not look fresh and flies were seen in the restaurant, other holidaymakers have complained about dirt at the bottom of salad bowls and the food being repetitive.

Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in the stools. Having significant experience in assisting those unfortunate enough to contract gastric illness we know first-hand the potential long term effects that can be associated with such illness, with sometimes permanent long term complications arising such as Post infective Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

If you have travelled to the Melia Cayo Guillermo in Cuba and subsequently suffered from symptoms of gastric illness or sustained an injury, Irwin Mitchell, who specialise in dealing with cases of such nature, would like to hear from you.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
