Irwin Mitchell is investigating the Playa Pesquero Hotel in Holguin, Cuba, following a number of concerning reports from guests.
A wedding party of 27 holidaymakers travelled to the resort hoping to have a relaxing time and participate in wedding celebrations. The holidaymakers reported that they all fell ill with gastric symptoms, throughout the duration of the holiday, which ultimately ruined the bride and groom’s wedding day.
The wedding party have described their symptoms and said they suffered abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting and lethargy. The mother of the bride fainted on the day of the wedding and the bride and groom were particularly concerned about their infant son who required medical treatment from the hotel doctor.
Whilst the hotel has received some positive reviews, Irwin Mitchell is concerned to learn that holidaymakers have expressed that they were disappointed with the poor standard of food and reported that on occasions, dishes were left uncovered and exposed to insects, birds and cats. One of this group became alarmed when she witness the meat chef dispose rubbish and return to the food counter without washing his hands.
Another guest was concerned when she saw one of the chefs go to the toilet wearing latex gloves which were not changed when he returned to the food counter. The bride said that during the holiday, she consumed chicken which she later realised to be pink in the middle.
The bride and groom were initially disappointed upon their arrival when they were offered a hotel room which was still in the process of being decorated, despite the fact that they had paid for an upgrade.
Our International Personal Injury team are currently acting for another wedding party who holidayed at the resort in 2014. This group suffered with gastric illness as a consequence of their stay and required a hospital admission.
We are also working on behalf of clients who stayed at the hotel during 2012 and 2013. One of these visitors suffered salmonella food poisoning and complained that the meat being served looked raw. Other problems that were highlighted by these parties included food being added to existing dishes, food appearing to be reheated and food being re-served a number of times. There were also complaints about insects landing on some of the food, and birds and cats being seen around the restaurant area.
Our team acted for other clients who stayed at this hotel in 2008 and 2009 and were successful in obtaining compensation for their pain and suffering.
