Playa Pesquero Hotel, Holguin - 2016
Our International Personal Injury team has been instructed to act on behalf of a widow whose husband passed away after becoming ill during an all inclusive holiday at the Playa Persquero Hotel in Holguin, in February 2016.
The couple both became ill with diarrhoea and stomach cramps while staying at the resort. The husband's symptoms were so severe that he was forced to seek treatment from the onsite medical centre: he was placed on a drip before being discharged with antibiotics and anti-diarrhoea medication. Unfortunately his condition deteriorated even more - he returned to the onsite doctor and was subsequently transferred to a local clinic for further treatment. Whilst at the clinic his symptoms worsened. He was moved to a larger hospital where he was given oxygen and another drip. But his condition continued to worsen; unfortunately he passed away the day before they was due to fly back to the UK. His widow was informed that their husband had 2 heart attacks during his time in hospital before he passed away.
The exact cause of death is being investigated.
Despite positive reviews of the resort online, some holidaymakers who have visited the Playa Pesquero Hotel have complained about the quality of the food, with some describing it as lukewarm. There are reports of birds in the areas where food was being served. One tourist noted that other guests at the hotel were getting tummy bugs.
Having significant experience in assisting those unfortunate enough to contract gastric illness, we know first-hand the potential long term effects that can result - sometimes permanent complications such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), or even fatality.
We will be investigating the cause of illness on behalf of the holidaymaker who has contacted us after the death of her husband and hope the tour operator will work with us to establish why both of them fell ill on holiday.
