Grand Bahia Principe Resort Punta Cana 2016
We are concerned to hear of guests falling ill with gastric symptoms while on holiday at the Grand Bahia Principe Resort Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic in July 2016.
Our International Personal Injury team have been contacted by a young couple who travelled to the resort. During the couple’s stay they developed severe diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, nausea and lethargy. The holidaymakers noted that on occasions the food was undercooked, for example at times it was served lukewarm and not kept at an adequate temperature.
They also advised that at times the food was left uncovered for long periods of time and flies were landing on the food as a result. The couple had other significant complaints about the quality of the resort facilities such as the cleanliness of the hotel swimming pool and the poor attitude of the staff.
The couple sought medical treatment but were unfortunately still experiencing symptoms on their return to the UK. The holidaymakers have reported that following testing in the UK they have been informed that their illness may have been caused by Salmonella.
Jennifer Mullins, a Solicitor and International Personal Injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, said: “We have now heard first-hand reports from the guests of the standards they experienced at the Grand Bahia Principe Resort Punta Cana and we have a number of serious concerns.
It is worrying to hear that other holidaymakers may have suffered the same problems as these guests during their stay at the hotel. We would urge anyone else who suffered problems at the hotel to get in touch as they may be able to help with our investigations.”
Gastric symptoms can range from mild diarrhoea to abdominal cramps and blood in stools. Having significant experience in assisting those unfortunate enough to contract gastric illness, we know first-hand the potential long term conditions that can be associated with it, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
If you also travelled to Grand Bahia Principe Resort Punta Cana and subsequently suffered symptoms of illness, we'd like to hear from you. We specialise in dealing with cases of this nature and could help you claim compensation.

"We were very happy with the outcome of our case, especially as we were initially offered nothing from the Tour Operator. Irwin Mitchell were very professional throughout and we are very happy with the outcome."
