Illness at the Riu Merengue, Dominican Republic

Irwin Mitchell has received reports of gastric illness amongst holidaymakers who travelled to the Riu Merengue, Dominican Republic during the early months of 2010.

It is reported that holidaymakers became ill possibly due to the failures in poor food hygiene standards at the hotel. A variety of other allegations are made in relation to the quality standards at the hotel.  Irwin Mitchell are also aware that the hotel was closed in recent years for approximately 5 weeks in an attempt to eradicate the illness which allegedly spread between this hotel and sister hotels on the same complex, the Riu Bachata and Riu Mambo.

Irwin Mitchell has previously represented holidaymakers who became ill at one or more of these hotels at various times throughout 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. These three hotels have a significant history of illness problems and Irwin Mitchell has been instructed in a large number of cases involving these hotels in recent years.

Irwin Mitchell has successfully settled a claim on behalf of holidaymakers who suffered from symptoms of gastric illness after staying at this hotel in previous years , a number of whom had booked holidays at the hotel to celebrate their wedding.
