Sentido Reef Oasis Senses, 2015

Specialist international personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have been instructed by a family following their week-long stay at the Sentido Reef Oasis Senses resort in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, in May 2015.

The family of four travelled to the hotel for their annual family holiday but illness struck each member, one of them falling ill just two days into their stay with a fever, severe abdominal pain, diarrhoea and vomiting. The other family members started to suffer with symptoms later in the week and they all consulted the onsite pharmacist who prescribed them with anti-biotic medication.

The holidaymakers have reported that the communal toilets were often “physically soiled and splattered with faeces.” They also said that the soap dispensers in the toilets were broken and not replaced during their stay despite complaints to staff. The family also noted that there were other guests staying at the hotel who also complained of feeling unwell.

On return to the UK, their symptoms reportedly worsened and medical treatment was sought from their GP. A stool sample was taken and the results confirmed that the holidaymaker had contracted Shigella and as a result he has had to take time off from work.

Jatinder Paul, at Irwin Mitchell, said: “This was supposed to be a fun-filled family holiday but instead it was spoiled by illness which has continued for one holidaymaker on their return to the UK.

“We will now be conducting our own investigations as to the cause of our clients’ illnesses and we would encourage the hotel management to take similar steps.”
